Belfast has a vibrant and eclectic music scene. You are never short of finding a venue with live music on any night of the week. I recently came across local band, Maguire and I, playing at a charity gig ‘Christmas Covered’ in the Kings Head where local musicians covered christmas hits. It was a brilliant night – great music, good cause and photos with santa thrown in.
Anyway, Maguire and I covered Wham’s Last Christmas and Band Aid. Loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it! Not only do the do excellent covers of other people’s music, they also write their own fabulous melodies. They have that alternative, folk vibe, with a great blend of male/female vocals.
They have a new EP out ‘Means of Illumination, which from the short clips I’ve heard, sounds great. Unfortunately I can’t download it straight onto my iphone and will have to work out another way to get it … maybe a CD?!
I love finding “new-to-me” local music. It gives me hope that there is better, more thought out music out there than what I hear everyday
