I spent yesterday lunchtime in the company of some talented Belfast women. The Ulster Hall hosted a lunctime event for International Women’s Day with poetry readings, live music and a photography exhibition.
Jan Carson, Education Community Heritage and Outreach Officer, gathered a great combination of artists for the event. Deirdre Cartmill (her new book is out soon) and Emma Must shared their poetry; Dana Masters (Dana also shared a snippet about her Grandmother’s trail blazing for Civil Rights in the USA) and Roisin Whyte shared their music; Amy Millar talked about the inspiration behind her photograpy exhibition “Belfast Girls”. Amy’s photos of girls from around Belfast were a reminder that these are the future women of Belfast and she challenged us to be blazing trails for them, as well as ourselves. This all made this an inspiring lunchtime out of the office. Packaged and delivered in time for me to get back to work!
